The "War of the Morro da Mineira" that took place on April 17 in the Catumbi neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro gets murkier and murkier with time.
As I noted yesterday, for example, military police are now under investigation for allegedly conspiring to cut loose the leader of the precipitatin incident: an attempt to reclaim narco points of sale at a strategic point of access to prime markets in downtown Rio de Janeiro.
I have been collecting and studying the media coverage of the incident, in which you see disorganized but gung ho military police agents directing indiscrimate, high-caliber, fully automatic suppressing fire up into a neighborhood of flimsily constructed residences, while apparently attracting heavy return fire down onto the "asphalt."
I have subtitled some of the TV coverage for your English-speaking edutainment.
